- Kaminey (2009)
Kaminey was the first collaboration of Shahid Kapoor with Vishal Bhardwaj with whom he went on to do two more movies. In fact, Vishal Bhardwaj played a big role to prove Shahid Kapoor’s acting prowess. Kaminey was a neo-noir crime drama and before Kaminey Shahid Kapoor was known only for doing romantic roles. In Kaminey, Shahid Kapoor played the roles of twin brothers Charlie and Guddu, one with a lisp and another with a stutter. - Udta Punjab (2016)
This Abhishek Chaubey directorial featured an ensemble cast of Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Diljit Dosanjh, and Kareena Kapoor. Udta Punjab was based on the drugs pandemic in Punjab and Shahid Kapoor played the role of a rockstar Tommy Singh who is always high on drugs and made songs about drugs and kind of vilified it. But after getting arrested he realises his mistake and tries to redeem himself. He portrayed the character brilliantly and left a big impact on the audience.
- Haider (2014)
Haider was the last movie of Vishal Bhardwaj’s Shakespearean trilogy after Maqbool and Omkara. Haider was an adaptation of Willam Shakespear’s famous play Hamlet where Shahid Kapoor played the titular character of Haider. Set in Kashmir during the peak of insurgency, the movie brilliantly showed both sides, and Shahid Kapoor as Haider, a young boy trapped in an unusual situation gave an exceptional performance. His performance in Haider earned him Filmfare Best Actor Award that year.
- Padmaavat (2018)
Padmaavat was a period epic drama movie directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Even though the movie focused more on the characters of Allauddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh) and Rani Padmavati (Deepika Padukone), Shahid Kapoor left a mark of his own as Raja Ratan Singh Singh. - Kabir Singh (2019)
Kabir Singh was a remake of the superhit Telugu movie Arjun Reddy and though the movie faced backlash for its misogynistic content, it became the biggest hit of Shahid Kapoor’s career earning more than 200 crores at the box office. Shahid Kapoor played the role of an arrogant, heartbroken doctor who gets into alcohol and drug abuse after his break up with the character played by Kiara Advani and Shahid Kapoor left no stone unturned to make his performance one of his bests.
