A couple of years ago, a complete feature film not released in theaters but you can watch directly on your mobile or television might have sounded like a joke or something impossible but the advent of online video streaming platforms, also known as OTT has changed it all. In the post covid era, the number of people going to the theater decreased drastically and the success of web series made the filmmakers contemplate what is good for their movies and release their movies accordingly. Some movies they release in theaters and some in OTT. Here we have created a list of five movies that will be released directly on OTT despite having big names in them.
- Gaslight
Gaslight is a murder mystery thriller movie whose trailer recently dropped online and it seems like a perfect murder mystery movie we love to watch. Directed by Pavan Kriplani, this movie stars Vikrant Messy, Sarah Ali Khan, and Chitrangada Singh in the lead roles and it’s produced by Ramesh Taurani and Akshai Puri which will release on 31 March 2023, directly on Disney+ Hotstar.
- Chakda Express
After a gap of almost five years, Anushka Sharma is making a comeback with the movie Chakda Express which is a sports drama and a biography of famous Indian woman cricketer Jhulan Goswami. Prasit Roy is directing the movie and earlier worked with Anushka Sharma in the horror movie Pari. The reason why Anushka Sharma decided to make a comeback with Chakda Express, where she is playing the former Indian woman character Jhulan Goswami who was also the captain of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team can be an inspiration for many girls who want to pursue her dreams. Chakda Express will be released on Netflix on 16 December.
- Tiku Weds Sheru
Tiku Weds Sheru is an upcoming black romantic comedy movie starring Nawazuddin Siddui as Shiraz “Sheru” Khan Afghani and Avneet Kaur as Tasleem “Tiku” Khan. The movie is written and directed by Sai Kabir and produced by Kangana Ranaut under her banner Manikarnika Films and it’s her first movie after the launch of her production house in 2020. It will release on Amazon Prime Video but the release date is not announced yet.
- Penthouse
Penthouse is directed by Abbas-Mustan who is famous for making suspense thriller movies like Baazigar, Ajnabee, Humraj, Aitraaj, Race, etc. Penthouse stars Bobby Deol and Arjun Rampal in the lead roles and like other Abbas-Mustan movies it’s also a suspense, thriller drama. The release date is not announced yet and it will release on Amazon Prime Video.
- Vicky Kaushal-Sarah Ali Khan’s Untitled Movie
Directed by Laxman Utekar who earlier directed Luka Chupi and Mimi is coming up with his next untitled movie starring Vicky Kaushal and Sarah Ali Khan. It’s a love story based in a small town. The movie is produced by Dinesh Vijan who earlier collaborated with director Laxman Utekar with the movie Mimi which was also a direct OTT release. The rights of this Vicky Kaushal- Sarah Ali Khan is reportedly sold to Netflix for a whopping 70 crores and will release by end of the year.
