There are various OTT platforms which are giving us web series with fresh concepts. Some major web series such as Mirzapur, The Family Man, Kota Factory, etc are coming back this year with their new seasons but there are a few web series that are coming for the first time on OTT. Here we have curated a list of five upcoming web series that may surprise us with their content.
- Gulkanda Tales
Remember the path breaking movie Tumbadd which gave us a never before experience in Indian cinema. It has become a cult movie and audiences were curious about what is coming next from the director Rahi Anil Barve. He is coming back with a web series titled Gulkanda series and it’s produced by Raj and DK of The Family Man and Farzi fame. It stars talented actors like Kunal Kemmu, Patralekha and Pankaj Tripathi. It’s touted to be a black comedy and will stream on Amazon Prime probably from the end of this year.
- Indian Police Force
Indian Police Force will be part of Rohit Shetty’s Cop Universe under which movies like the Singham series, Simmba and Suryavanshi comes. Directed by Rohit Shetty, it’s his first foray into the OTT platform and touted to be one of the costliest web series ever made in India. It features Siddharth Malhotra, Vivek Oberai and Shilpa Shetty in lead roles and no doubt that it’s going to be an action-packed web series. It will stream on Amazon Prime.
- Heeramandi
Netflix recently revealed their first time collaboration with the famous Indian Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali with the web series Heeramandi. Featuring Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chaddha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sharmin Segal and Sanjeeda Sheikh Heeremandi is set in the famous red light area of Lahore before partition and tells the story of courtesans. Sanjay Leela Bhansali who is famous for his opulence and grandeur in movies is leaving no stone unturned to make Heeramandi a classic. It will be interesting to see how Bhansali’s first web series will turn out to be and we all are waiting for it with bated breath.
- Jubilee
Jubilee is an upcoming period drama web series directed by Vikramaditya Motwane who earlier directed critically acclaimed movies like Udaan and Lootera and web series like Sacred Games and AK vs SK. Jubilee is set in the Hindi film industry during the 1940’s-1950’s era of Hindi film industry. It has an ensemble cast of Prosenjit Chatterjee, Aditi Rao Hydari, Aparshakti Khurana, Sidhant Gupta, Wamiqa Gabbi and Ram Kapoor and will stream on Amazon Prime video from 7 April 2023.
- Guns and Gulaabs
Guns and Gulaabs is created by Raj and DK who made their name famous with successful series like The Family Man and the recently released Farzi. Guns and Gulaabs has a talented starcast of Rajkumar Rao, Dulquer Salman and Gulshan Devaiah. Its teaser dropped a few months ago and gave us a retro vibe and seems like it’s going to be black comedy crime drama. It will release on Netflix but the release date has not been announced yet.
