Ranbir Kapoor: A Product of Nepotism We Are Proud Of
In the last couple of years, especially after the unfortunate death od Sushant Singh Rajput, there have been lots of talks about how the Bollywood Industry is an industry that promotes nepotism and gives rough treatment to outsiders. This is true to an extent because there are quite a few products of nepotism who are getting movie offers even after giving many flop movies and have no acting talent. But Ranbir Kapoor is an exception to it as he is undoubtedly one of the best actors of the new generation of actors.

Ranbir Kapoor belongs to the illustrious family of Kapoors which is considered as the first family of Bollywood. From Prithviraj Kapoor to Ranbir Kapoor, four generations of this family have been an important part of Indian cinema and any discussion about the history of Bollywood is incomplete without mentioning the Kapoor Family. Raj Kapoor, the first of three sons of Prithviraj Kapoor was a great director-actor, and other to Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor were also big stars of their times. Rishi Kapoor, son of Raj Kapoor carried forward the legacy of Kapoors along with Randhir and Rajiv Kapoor, although they were never a big star like Rishi Kapoor. Ranbir Kapoor is the son of Rishi and Nitu Kapoor who was also a famous actress herself. Ranbir Kapoor was born on 28 September 1982 and since his childhood, he decided to become an actor. To pursue his dream of becoming an actor, he took admission in the School of Visual Arts and Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York to learn the nuances of acting.
After coming Back to India, he assisted Sanjay Leela Bhansali on the movie ‘Black’ in 2005 and two years later he made his debut with the Sanjay Leela directed movie ‘Saawariya’ which also marked the debut of Anil Kapoor’s daughter Sonam Kapoor. Though the movie failed at the box office, the performance of Ranbir Kapoor was appreciated a lot and he begged Filmfare Award for Best Debut (Male). His next movie was Bachna Ae Haseeno produced by Yash Raj Films and directed by Siddharth Anand where he acted with three female co-stars, Deepika Padukone, Bipasha Basu, and Minissha Lamba. It was a typical YRF rom-com movie and was a success at the box office. He started dating Deepika Padukone as both fell in love while shooting for the movie but broke up after a year of the relationship.
Though Bachna Ae Haseeno gave Ranbir his first hit movie, he proved his mettle as an actor with movies like Shimit Amin’s Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year, Ayan Mukerji’s Wake Up Sid! and Prakash Jha’s Rajneeti. During this period he acted in Rajkumar Santoshi’s Ajab Prem Ki Kahani, his first comedy movie with Katrina Kaif in the lead. Rumours of him dating Katrina Kaif emerged but both of them never admitted it till 2015 when Ranbir Kapoor disclosed that he is dating Katrina Kaif but eventually they broke up in 2016.
On the professional front, he starred in Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar in 2011 which did average business at the box office but Ranbir’s performance as the self-destructive rockstar named Jordan earned him lots of praise and he won his first Filmfare Best Actor Award. In 2012, he played the character of a deaf and mute boy in Anurag Basu’s Barfi! which was Ranbir’s first 100 crores movie and he won his second consecutive Filmfare Best Actor Award. Very next year he gave another blockbuster movie Yeh Jawani Hain Deewani directed by Ayan Mukerji where he acted with Deepika Padukone for the second time. It was one of the biggest hits of that year. It’s not that all of Ranbir’s movies were hits as he gave flops like Besharam, Bombay Velvet, Tamasha, Roy, and Jagga Jasoos.
After a string of flops, he gave a hit Ae Dil Hain Mushkil directed by Karan Johar. But it was Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju with which Ranbir made a great comeback. It was a biopic of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt whose life was full of controversies and many ups and downs. Ranbir Kapoor nailed the character of Sanjay Dutt with his brilliant performance and the movie did business of more than 300 crores and Ranbir Won his third Filmfare Award for the movie. In between, he started working on Ayan Mukerji’s most ambitious movie, a fantasy drama movie Brahmhastra which took around eight years to complete and it’s releasing on 9 September. While shooting for the movie, he started dating Alia Bhatt, the female lead of the movie but he had a personal tragedy in between when his father Rishi Kapoor died because of cancer on 30 April 2020. It took some time for Ranbir to get out of this loss. He married his long-term girlfriend Alia Bhatt on 14 April 2022 and in June they announced that they are going to be parents soon.
