Rimi Sen’s Stint in Bollywood
Rimi Sen was born on 21 September 1981 in Calcutta, West Bengal. Her real name is Subhamitra Sen and she changed it to Rimi Sen before entering into movies. She did her schooling at Bidya Bharati Girls’ High School and completed her graduation in Commerce from the University of Calcutta. She always wanted to be an actress since her childhood and after graduation, she came to Mumbai with her mother. She started her career with a TV ad with for Coca-Cola with Aamir Khan. She got noticed by various producers and directors and soon she started getting movie offers. Her debut movie was in Telegu titled Nee Thodu Kavali in 2002. It did decent business at the box office. Her Bollywood debut was the 2003 comedy movie Hungama directed by Priyadarshan with Akshaye Khanna and Aftab Shivdasani. The movie became a success and she got many movies post Hungama.

Post Hungama she did many big-budgeted movies like Baghban (2003), Dhoom (2004), Kyon Ki (2005), Garam Masala (2005), and Golmaal (2006). Most of these movies were hits. She also did a cameo in the 2006 movie Dhoom 2, a sequel to Dhoom and she followed it with Johnny Gaddaar in 2007, with debutant Neil Nitin Mukesh. At the start of her career, she worked with big stars like Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Akshaye Khanna, and Abhishek Bachchan. But after 2008, her career took a deep slump from which she was never able to make a comeback and almost all her movies failed at the box office. Most of her movies like De Taali, Sankat City, Horn ‘Ok’ Pleass, Thank You and Shagird failed at the box office and rise of new actresses like Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, etc affected her a lot, and film offers stopped coming to her.
In 2015, she took part in the 9th season of the reality show Bigg Boss as a celebrity contestant but left the house midway because she could deal with the pressure. She also produced a film, Budhia Singh – Born to Run in 2016 under her real name Subhamitra Sen but this movie also tanked at the box office. At present, she is trying to make a comeback with the OTT platform.
