Shakti Kapoor and His Trust in Bollywood
Shakti Kapoor is a well-known Indian actor known for his comic and villainous roles. Shakti Kapoor’s real name is Sunil Sikandar Lal Kapoor and he was born on 3 Wednesday, September 1952. Interestingly he was born a day before late actor Rishi Kapoor was born in September 1952. Shakti Kapoor grew up in Karol Bagh, Delhi. He was born and grew up in Karol Bagh, Delhi and his father Sikandar Lal Kapoor was a tailor and his mother’s name was Sushila Kapoor. He has a brother and two sisters. He did schooling at Holy Child Senior Secondary School, Delhi, The Frank Anthony Public School, New Delhi, and Salwan Public School. According to an interview by Shakti Kapoor because of his mischievous behaviors, he got restricted from all three schools. After completing his school, he did graduation with B.Com from Kirolimal College, Delhi and he started doing modeling during his college days.
After his graduation, he got admission to FTII, Delhi, Pune in acting course and after passing out from FTII, he came to Bombay, and his struggle and journey as an actor started. His Bollywood debut was in the movie ‘Ranjit Khanal’ and post that did many supporting roles, especially in negative roles. Some of his well-known movies of that period were Sargam, Satte pe Satta, Sargam, Rocky, etc. His role in Feroz Khan’s Qurbani as a villain and Subhash Ghai’S Hero got him much-needed attention and he went on to do many roles. In 1989 Pahlaj Nihalani launched a film titled “Bhagya Vidhata” Starring Shakti Kapoor as the main hero costarring Neelam, Prasenjit, and Sonam. In 1980, during the shoot of his film ‘Kismet’ he met his future wife Shivange Kolhapore, sister of famous actress Padmini and both got married soon. Famous actress Shradhha Kapoor is their daughter and they also have a son named Siddhant Kapoor who worked in movies like Shootout at Wadala, Ugly, etc. ShaktiKapoor’s residence is in Juhu, Mumbai.
In his career spanning more than forty years, he worked in more than 700 films. In the 1980s and 1990’s he teamed with actor Kader Khan and Asrani in negative roles. After that, the combo of Govinda, Kader Khan with director David Dhawan, became very famous for their comedy roles. Shakti Kapoor won Filmfare Best Comedian Actor for the movie Raja Babu. Together they gave many hit movies like Raja Babu, Collie No 1, Hero no 1, etc. His character of Crime Master Gogo in the cult classic movie Andaz Apna Apna can be considered one of his most iconic roles. In the post-2000s, he did successful movies, especially with Priyadarshan in moves like Hungama, Malamal Weekly, Bhgambhag, De Dana Dan, etc.
In 2005, his name came into controversy, when during a sting operation where he was asking for sexual favours from a television reporter posing as an aspiring Bollywood actress. The event caused the actor to be detested for a short period of time, but then the public got over it. Shakti Kapoor also participated in the Indian Reality Show Bigg Boss in the year 2011. Nowadays, he is taking it slow and doing very less movies.
